Grandma Jailed 15 Days over Suspended Driver’s License Mishap | Virginia Suspended Driver’s License Attorney
Broward County, Florida officials should be ashamed of themselves for locking up 78-year-old Gabrielle Shaink Trudeau for 15 days charging her for driving on a suspended license that was not suspended at the time she was pulled over.
It all started when a police officer observed Trudeau driving too slowly and ticketed her for driving on a suspended or revoked license. Trudeau was confused over notices received from the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles regarding an investigation that temporarily suspended her driver’s license following a separate traffic ticket she had received earlier in 2009 and thought that she did not have to appear in court for this particular ticket. Since Trudeau failed to appear in traffic court for the serious criminal charge of driving on a suspended/revoked license, the judge issued a bench warrant and Sheriff’s deputies went to her home on November 18, 2009 to arrest her.
To add insult to injury, she was not represented in court by either of the two assistant public defenders for Broward County who could have possibly detected the mistake and prevented Trudeau’s 15 days in jail.
When Judge Lee J. Seidman realized the series of errors that had occurred, he was outraged and released Gabrielle Shaink Trudeau immediately issuing an apology.
She’s handcuffed like Houdini, for the record. She’s got chains around her waist, and she’s got handcuffs in front around her hands as if she was some kind of a violent criminal. I want her released. I think she’s suffered enough at our system’s mistakes. – Judge Seidman
